I shared a table with Bailey Nickerson and Tivoli Nickerson of Candy Capsule at the Asheville Comic Expo. Bailey and Tivoli design and sew their own plushies. Their stuff is very well done. They also sew adorable little pouches, and make stickers. Bailey has the pink hair and Tivoli has the blue hair. We had one of the most popular tables at ACE. I brought stickers, bookmarks, and polymer clay jewelry to sell. I sold out of most of my sticker designs. I bought one of their super cute Narwhal plushies.

I've been feeling miserable all day. I ended up missing work today because of it. Anywho, since my day is already ruined I thought I would post up a picture of Sharkysaur I made yesterday. Sharkysaur makes me feel better. Sharkysaur is having a nightmare. He's always been very imaginative. You probably won't notice this, but I didn't give him nostrils this time. I'm not sure if I like him better with or without nostrils, but I feel like he is missing something without the nostrils. Do you think he looks better with or without them? This is the real reason Sharkysaur doesn't like octopi. This is also why you shouldn't leave your toys lying around on the floor Sharkysaur.
Sailor Moon was the first anime I ever watched, so I thought I would celebrate my favorite sailor soldier by redesigning her costume.
I invented this super derpy character while I was at work. He goes on imaginative adventures and is terrified of octopi. Silly Sharkysaur. This is the first character I've made that I can imagine being in a children's book.
I made this for my moms birthday. I decided to try something new, by making a 3D papercut. I colored the flowers with colored pencil and chalk pastel, then I cu out each flower and cut the edges of the petals and bent them and the leaves to make them stick out. I will have to try this again sometime. Everyone wanted to touch the flowers.
I've been working on some new characters to go with my Imp Mischief. They are all monsters. I was trying to make them look like they are related species, but completely different from each other at the same time. Here they are from smallest to largest: Kismet, Mischief, and Freddy.
Below is a comparison. On the left is a page from the original book, and on the right is the new book. There are going to be lots of little messages for Kimmy to decipher. I won't be able to fill up the whole book in a month. So there will be a lot of empty pages for Kimmy to fill. I think that besides information on writing Gallifreyan I will also include pages about monsters and events making it encyclopedic.
I have been so busy with school, I haven't worked on any of my projects for a month! This week I used all of my spare time working on art in a frenzy to get some work done. I finished my Atom Bot paper cut. I like how it looks, but I think I'm going to remake it with layers of colored paper, like a paper collage. I also got a spiffy wood burning tool, and practicing my Gallifreyan on some wood disks I'm going to turn into pendants for my friends. And I drew Applejack from My Little Ponies. I've been planning a costume for Midoricon. I am not a seamstress, and only have experience patching holes, but I might as well start somewhere. I'm making a Black Mage costume from Final Fantasy 14. Its the new version that is actually black rather than blue and yellow. You can see the reference image below. I decided to go with this costume because it looks shabby and intentionally imperfect. I raided the local Goodwill for clothes I could tear apart and refashion for this costume. I found some really interesting fabric textures, and it was really easy to find lots of black clothing. I have not figured out what I am going to do for the pants yet, but I did find a floor length plain black dress that I can turn into the coat. Yay! To go with my costume I've sculpted Gurdy the Moogle from FF12. All that is left is for me to make her teeny tiny clothes, add fur to her ears and paint her eyes. Then I'll be able to glue her ears and wings into place. The last thing I've worked on are some new minipets for Star Fall Hollow. I won't share them all with you. I want there to be some surprises, so here 1 of my favorites. It is really hard to resist the impulse to show them all off.
I can't wait to get the fabric I ordered for my my Aimi Fox plush. Spoonflower was also having a promotion to print a free swatch in faux suede. I made this tiny honey bee plush with a tiny honeycomb. I wonder how it will look on faux suede I hope it doesn't make the lines too fuzzy. I'm excited to touch it. |
