These are a bunch of the pins I made this year using shrink plastic, resin and glitter. The grumpy calico pin is my favorite because it is based on my cat Carmello.

Finished the Library's Christmas card. Made some silhouettes of plants then painted them in my selected color palette and moved them around to form a wreath. It was easy to edit the overall shape since I did each branch as a different piece of the whole.
We filled the little bistro to the brim with guests decked out in 20's finery. It was so fun to look at all the great outfits. The menu was delicious. My favorite thing was the Kohl cannon balls, which were fried mashed potatoes. I never imagined that such a thing existed. Here is the final result of the poster and ticket I designed in color.
I am super proud of how this turned out. I'm used to drawing cute monsters all the time so being able to do something different from what I usually do is really encouraging that I can do things outside of my comfort zone and be successful at it. Anyway the Great Gatsby Affair is one of my library's fundraisers to raise money for renovations. It is going to be an awesome event and we will be dressing in 20's fashion.
I just completed my first day as an official employee of the public library. I am so happy to be working here. I have been wanting to work for the library for a long time and now I finally am. Wish me luck!
It was me! I did it, or rather I didn't do it.
I spent most of the summer interning at the Public Library. It was the most amazing work, and I even got to co-plan a children's program related to Pokemon Go! Well once school started up again I went back to my job as a preschool teacher's assistant and after school teacher. I do love working with kids, but my ideal job is to work in a public library (also with kids). Anyway. School has been in session for 2 months now, and guess who just accepted a job at the library???? Me! Yes!!!!!!!!!!!! I start in 2 weeks and I am so happy. In other news I updated Conquer Artist Alley: Don't Just Survive, with a fun post on shrink plastic. If you have never used the stuff it is so freakin' fun. This was my first Game Jam ever, and I was so excited and worried about being a first timer. However it was awesome. I met so many interesting and talented people. There were developers, artists, musicians, and animators.
The theme for this jam was "Ritual". While we were having pizza and discussing the theme, I pitched an idea to the people I was sitting with most of whom I had just met. They liked the idea, and we decided to form a team. I had not expected that anyone would be interested in my ideas, or be so willing to work with me, since this was my first game jam. We ended up with several more people joining our team. Unfortunately things started going a little downhill from there when one person on the team immediately took over the entire project and behaved unprofessionally. However we stuck with it and finished the game. I feel that even though a lot of things happened that were extremely stressful, my personal expectations for the event were met. Which were to meet people, and complete a game. However, now I know what not to do at the next game jam, and I know who I like working with, and who I won't work with. I also learned that having a large team does not mean you will accomplish more in a short period of time. In fact it can really make it difficult to accomplish anything. These are the assets I made for our game Chromasia. A lot has been happening lately. I moved to Ohio, then flew to Texas to help my aunt also move. I got my old job back working at a preschool. When I accepted the job my boss actually said it was the best news she'd had. It made me really happy. My cats have been pretty chill throughout the moving process. I do miss the friends I made in North Carolina, the art group and their positive influence on my life. I also miss my sisters and my many nephews and nieces. It was fun to live close to them, and be a part of their lives. Since moving I have done only a few sketches. I also made a few card shadow boxes using Pokemon and Magic cards. My friend Jon got me interested in them. It was interesting to figure out how best to make them and took some trial and error. I was also trying to create an interesting character to use in a short story I'd like to illustrate. I decided that it would be easiest for me to draw animal characters than humans. I think this design is fun to draw and fun to look at. It needs more work, and may change drastically. But I'm happy with how it turned out.
Death card WIP. I did not want to make the typical skeletal reaper, so I drew this instead. I need to work on the composition a bit, but this is the basic concept. Death has turned away from the dead tree toward the sapling. The Death card is supposed to symbolize change. One thing has ended and something else is beginning. I'd like to make her cloak black, and her dress fade from black to blue like a blue morpho butterfly.
The Poison Cage Tarot deck is so inspiring. I love how it integrates so much symbolic imagery with color and form to set the tone of the card. I did some research, and there are apparently thousands of tarot decks out there, with all sorts of themes, like: steampunk, vampires, cats, rabbits, etc. One of the cutest I saw was the DNAxCat major arcana deck from Taiwan. It has adorable chibi cats representing the characters. All of this diversity got me to thinking what kind of visual theme I would choose if I were making a tarot deck. My theme would be people wearing animal masks. I honestly think that making a whole deck is too ambitious for me to finish, but my goal is to make one card. So I started sketching out The Fool. Here is his face. I want to keep to the usual imagery of him about to walk off a cliff, because he is unaware of the danger he is in. In my mind, the fool is naive, and ignorant, because he has not experienced the hardships of life. He is optimistic and without fear, because he doesn't know that he should be afraid, not because he is brave. Even though the fool is about to walk into danger, I feel like he would not be harmed. I wonder if there is some way to symbolize this?
