I love the cute characters of San-x and Tokidoki! I want to some day be able to work with a company and make cute characters to be made into toys. The hard part is that I have no idea how to start building relationships with other artists and companies.
Anyway, I am big into sculpting with polymer clay, and there are lots of great artists in the Youtube community. Popular Japanese characters are a favorite among them, and they make a lot of charms based on Rilakkuma and Hello Kitty. I wanted to make a unique character that would be fairly easy to reproduce in polymer clay, so I drew Aimi last night. I wanted to make her simple enough to share her with the art community, so other artists could make her too. I also wanted the design and shape to be distinct enough that I could make food charms shaped like her, similar to the Re-ment figures that have pancakes shaped like Rilakkuma's head. I think Aimi would be really cute as a vinyl doll. Oh how I wish the wish of the impossible. I'm going to try to make some other versions of Aimi. I'll probably dress her up in Fairy Kei. Oh how I love pastels and eye bows. If you have any insight about how to apply to work with toy companies, let me know.
